7 Things You Need To Unlearn When You Get Into A Relationship

Getting in a relationship can one of the most exciting things ever. You are learning something new about the other person every day, and each day you are strengthening the bonds. The element of surprise is enough to give you a happy rush. However as the relationship progresses you’ll start expecting things, comparing your relationship with someone else’s, and taking each other for granted. All of this eventually snowballs into trouble. We suggest letting go of some of your expectations and rules (in a positive manner) and taking each day and each challenge as it comes. If you are about to start a relationship, or are in the midst of one, we suggest unlearning these things to ensure that you both stay happy.

1. Having a happily ever after: Sure a happily ever after is something we all crave but a real life relationship is going to be very different from the ones we’ve been reading about or seeing on the big screen. Let go of unreal expectations and keep things simple because every relationship has its own rules.

2. Be like the happy couples on social media: Just like movies and books, social media is one of the biggest causes of relationship envy. Sure your BFF looks super happy with her boyfriend who seems to be such a romantic on Facebook but trust us, real life and social media life are two very different things.

3. Always being right and honest: There will be several moments in your relationship when you have to choose between being right and being kind. You might not really love his best friend, or his mom, or that gift that he gave you after a week’s contemplation … however you can afford a little kindness in these situations (especially when your significant other’s feelings will be really hurt.)

4. You won’t need to compromise for the right relationship: There are some things that are totally worth not compromising over, however there will be little things that you will find yourself letting go of despite vowing never to do so. Forgetting an anniversary, fighting with you in public, white lies … there will be things that always pop up and you might have to let go of them sometimes to move forward.

6. Only love is enough: Meeting your Prince Charming and staying in a state of happily ever after is something that almost never happens. You need a whole lot of things like respect, companionship, understanding and truth to complement the love.

7. You will never fight: You will have arguments, you will say nasty things and you will also hate each other at times. It’s only natural and it doesn’t mean that you love each other any less because of it.
