50 Cent was accused on Wednesday of attacking an ex-girlfriend and vandalizing her home during an argument in Los Angeles on June 23rd. The 37-year-old rapper faces five criminal charges – one count of domestic violence, four counts of vandalism – but was not arrested, reports CNN.
50 Cent (born Curtis Jackson) denied the charges today through his lawyer, Scott Leemon, who released a statement to the press. “It is important to note, Mr. Jackson has not been arrested and there is no warrant outstanding for his arrest,” said Leemon. “We have been in contact with the L.A. City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not be commenting any further at this time.”
50 Cent allegedly broke chandeliers and ransacked his ex’s bedroom. Investigators estimated $7,100 worth of damages at the scene. His arraignment is scheduled for July 22nd at Van Nuys Superior Court in California; if convicted of all five counts, his maximum punishment would be five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.
For his part, 50 Cent appeared unconcerned on Twitter last night, posting several tweets and photos that began with “I’m not in jail but,” including “Ok I’m not in jail but if I go I’m taking this piano with me#smsaudio” and “I’m not in jail I’m on my Gucci couch #SMSaudio.” He also retweeted a fan’s post that said, “Your Ex is a stupid whore! Trying to get you locked up and all that shit!”
