5 Things That You Should Not Tolerate In A Relationship

Coup

Of course, no relationship is perfect. In fact, disagreements and fights are a part of every healthy equation. As is temptation toward other people, and difference of opinion, and those little white lies. But, there’s a line which should not be crossed, because what lies on the other side is unacceptable.

A relationship is about compromising, and finding the middle ground, but not when it comes to these five things:

1. Lying
Little white lies are okay. But, lying about things that matter, like one’s whereabouts, social circle, and finances, is not okay under any circumstances. A relationship is based on trust, and lying severs it irreparably.

2. Cheating
Sure, relationships are complex, and people cheat for different reasons. Sometimes, it isn’t because they have fallen out of love, or even out of spite. It is okay to forgive cheating if it’s a one-off thing, and if both of you still want to make things work. But, under no circumstances should you accept an affair, or a pattern of hooking up with someone else.

3. Any sort of abuse
One doesn’t have to hit you in order to be called abusive. Abuse can be physical, emotional as well as sexual. Anything that makes you feel disrespected or manipulated or unsafe, in any way, requires your attention. If your partner is not willing to work with you, walk away.

4. Disrespecting each other in front of others
Don’t wash your dirty laundry in public. Keep your fights private, and your taunts even more so. Many couples bicker at each other in front of others. They try to be witty or sarcastic, but everyone can sense the underlying tension. It’s not okay.

5. Stifling each other’s goals
A good partner is one who helps you become the best version of yourself. Whether it is professionally or personally, you should feel encouraged and supported, and not that your dreams need to be put aside for this relationship.
