5 Things Not To Do On Social Media After A Break Up

All break-ups are hard, some obviously harder than others; they leave your emotions or ego shaken. So, you pick up your phone or get behind the computer and attempt to find some solace or some vengeance, whatever the case may be for you. Of course you are entitled to solace, even vengeance if you must, that is what family and friends are there for, talk to them. When you break up with someone, here are five things you should not do with any of your social media accounts.

1. Ranting – As tempting as it is, taking to Twitter or Facebook to talk about how unfaithful your partner is or how bad they have treated you will only make you look petty. This also isn’t the time to write a philosophical treatise on love and cheating. Worst of all, creating a thread of screenshots that slander your partner isn’t only rash, it is also disrespectful to your partner and immature.

2. Using your ex’s picture right after a break up –  this may look like nothing, after all your ex is not your enemy so  you can use their picture as a profile picture if you want. The problem with this action is that, it is capable of communicating the wrong message to your ex and to other people who are aware of the break up.

3. Using another person’s picture with heart-eyed emoji’s –  Doing this will look like you had a back-up lover who was just marking time, waiting for your relationship to end so they could take your ex’s place. It also reeks strongly of an attempt to make your partner jealous.

4. Changing your Facebook status to ‘single’ – So, your Facebook status always had ‘engaged’ as relationship status. It is better to keep is so and wait for some weeks at least to be sure that the relationship has indeed ended before you change it.

5. Blocking – Unless blocking your ex on social media will help you get over the breakup sooner, don’t block them just hours after a breakup for pettiness sake or to show them how upset you are. Leaving a room for communication says a lot about your maturity. Who knows, your ex may get into an accident and text you to come to their aid.
