Flavia Tumusiime continues to share inspiring stories from her life and career in the “30 days of Flavia Tumusiime” series. On day 19, she posted:
“I have failed at many things and one of them was when I started a business I was not good at and even failed to be good at.
You know about tv,radio, acting and my Mc work but I have done everything from minimal interior decor to a fruit selling business. You can blame it on ambition or greed, at this point am not even sure what applies haaha
I have a friend who once convinced me to start a catering business, all I had to do was hire a chef and a few employees to help run the business. She was my technical ‘know-who’. She was supposed to advise me on going into the business and helped get my first client.
I did my research and worked the numbers and it made sense. But after close to a year, I was making money yes but very tired and constantly getting complications she was not helping me with. It was almost like she opened the door to the opportunity and walked away from there on.
I closed the business because I had so much on my plate and took what lessons I could from that failure.
But lets talk about what we term as technical ‘know-who’ where someone recommends you or helps you get a job and you start to think they must hand you everything else from the skills to the hardwork. No..I suggest when someome opens a door of opportunity for you, say thank you and grind your way through the rest of what is needed. Nothing comes easy.”
