Flavia Tumusiime continues to share inspiring stories from her life and career in the “30 days of Flavia Tumusiime” series. On day 21, she posted:
“I read somewhere, that you must be the kind of friend you want to have. If you are a bad and disloyal friend, its hard to expect any better.
3 years ago I started to rebrand myself and try to improve my brand. I set up a 5 year plan and some things have worked, others not so much – but such is life. Today am sharing about friends so lets go back to that.
I had an idea in my mind to start a show and I sat down, worked the structure of the idea and knew what I needed. I decided to hire friends in the industry. 1: because they were good at what they do 2: because I felt they would treat the project like theirs since they were close to me. Well I was in for a surprise.
I was so dissapointed by few of them who infact almost sabotaged the idea instead. They let me fail not once but twice and only focused on what was going into their pockets. It set me back so much and I had to pick my losses, of money and so called friends. I couldn’t believe that my own friends would be so reckless and unbothered about my fate or my failing.
I kept the anger for a while till the lessons set in. 1: your expectations of people, friends or not, should not be based on what they can do for you…give and take doesn’t cement a friendship. 2: if you really want to succeed, let that be your own responsibility, no one cares or knows about your struggle more than you.”
