Flavia Tumusiime continues to share inspiring stories from her life and career in the “30 days of Flavia Tumusiime” series. On day 22, she posted:
“About this time last year, I was on set filming a series. Before going into the project I knew the team I was going to work with, I read about those I didn’t know much about. I was particularly excited to be working with one person who I greatly admired. I went into the project happy to meet her and learn from her and maybe I had high expectations.
The first months of working together were great, but after the pressure of work got to us, the disagreements started. One particular one got so heated I almost quit.
See, we were two hard working and opinionated ladies and we didn’t think any of us was wrong. We disagreed on even the slightest thing and in one outburst we went too far and insulted each other and felt we couldn’t work together anymore.
She felt I was not respecting her idea and her work and was undermining her intelligence. On the other hand I felt she was trying to sabotage me and perhaps had insecurities she didn’t want to address.
We were both wrong. Our egos were not letting us see the best in each other, we were too busy trying to prove a point on who is better or right, we didn’t stop to think we could actually rise and help each other succeed.
Thankfully we passed that phase and work well now. But its a lesson, that your ego will always tell you the selfish side of the story, learn to mute it often.”
