2016 Edition of Copa Coca-Cola Launched

Thousands of young footballers across the country have the chance to display their skills and celebrate their passion for the game with launch of the 2016 edition of the world’s largest brand-supported grassroots football tournament, Copa Coca-Cola.

Now in its 27 th year, the football championship seeks to not only encourage teens to demonstrate that fact that sport goes beyond games and means team spirit, comradeship and respect.

This year’s edition will see Coca-Cola partner with the Ministry of Education and Sports through the National Council of Sports (NCS), in the organisation of the regional tournaments.

Rodney Nzioka, the Coca-Cola Uganda Brand Manager said the partnership with the NCS will ensure more teens from across the country get to participate. “Thousands of young football players can participate through their schools, academies or community teams.”

“All participating players will be awarded certificates of participation,” added Nzioka.

The regional tournaments will be held in different regions across the country and winners from these regions will converge in Teso College, Aloet for the national championship finals on 28 th May 2016.

Over the past years, the international training camps have seen players visit and train in exciting aspirational locations which included, Tuks Sports Village, a high Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria, South Africa as well as Chelsea football club’s training grounds in London, Cobham training facility, where the players had an opportunity to visit the Stamford Bridge Stadium for a live match.

St Mary’s Kitende thrashed Masaka SS 4-0 to clinch to their 8th National schools title in the 2015 edition of the championships.
