Bahati Aisha, a 20-year-old blind hairstylist, has been crowned the first ever Miss Tourism Independent at a ceremony held at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday evening.
Bahati impressed the judges with her hair styling and singing talents to beat her close contender Namubiru Joan who showed off her dancing skills.
Miss Tourism Independent is a new category that was introduced to cater for individuals with special needs and include them in promoting tourism.
Speaking after crowning Bahati winner, Tourism Minister Maria Mutagamba revealed that the idea of Miss Tourism Independent was hatched after she was challenged by Ministers for the disabled to include people with special needs in promoting Tourism at the launch of this year’s pageant.
Meanwhile, Bahati and Joan each received 200k cash prize which was supplemented with gift hampers from Radiant, the main sponsors of this year’s pageant.
