19-year-old Akurut Pauline was crowned Miss Tourism Uganda 2015 last night at Serena Hotel. The girl from Teso region beat off competition from other 21 girls that had made it through to the grand finale.
It was all glitz and glamour at Serena Hotel. People turned up in large numbers to witness who would be crowned Miss Tourism Uganda. The 22 girls were unveiled at about 9pm, opening with a cultural Kiganda dance and later performed a well-choreographed dance to a medley of songs.
They later showcased cultural wear and creative wear with most notably Atim Peace, Miss Tourism Northern region, shocking the audience with her choice of wear as she flaunted her bare breasts in the process of showcasing her cultural wear. 12 girls were later eliminated and the remaining 10 went through a maze of questions from the judges.
They took turns answering the questions that would later determine their fate. At the end of the night, Akurut Pauline was announced Miss Tourism 2015. Miss Tourism Ankole, Sheila Kirabo was 2nd Runner Up and Miss Tourism Karamoja, Nyangan Karen was 1st Runner Up.
The highlight of the evening was when a blind 20-year-old girl, Bahati Aisha, was crowned Miss Tourism Independent. She had various talents including hair styling which she did on stage, styling Flavia Tumusiime’s hair. She beat off competition from Joan Namubiru who chose to showcase her dancing skills. They were rewarded with shs 200,000 each with gift hampers from Radiant, who were the platinum sponsors of this year’s pageant.
The girls that died in an accident during the regional search (Nakiwolo Barbra, Norah Atim and Resty Namawejje) were honored with a tribute song. The families of the deceased were present as well. Sadness enveloped the audience as the song was performed. There were also performances from Lillian Mbabazi and Dr. Bitone, who did much of shouting than singing. and later the show ended at about 2am.
