sexy-black-womanThe vagina is a delicate area, which needs a lot of attention. A vagina can loose elasticity, develop infection and bad odour. But certain habits and tips can be incorporated on a daily basis to prevent vaginal problems.

1. Exercise for tightening vagina. Exercise, more specifically kegel exercises help tighten the vagina. Kegel exercises not only improve the strength of the pelvic floor muscles, but also prevent and treat pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence.

2. Kegel exercise for tightening vagina. Find the spot by contracting your pelvic muscles, which you use when you control urination. But don’t include the legs, abdomen or the butt muscles. Now that you have found the pelvic muscle or PC muscle, hold the contraction as long as possible and release, then repeat. Or contract the muscles and count to five and release. You can do this three times a day. It is recommended that one should practice kegel exercises 50 times a day, every other day.

3. Alternative methods for tightening vagina: Plastic surgery is recommended for women who have had a baby and for older women. There are also gels and medication available for tightening the vagina, but consult your doctor before you use either.

4. During menstruation, it is advisable to wash the vaginal region to prevent odour associated with menstruation. Also, change your sanitary pad or tampon often to prevent build-up of bacteria in the vagina.

5. Avoid using strong soaps to wash your intimate area. Soaps and body washes have higher pH levels that wash off good bacteria from the vagina. To maintain a healthy vagina, use vaginal ‘soap’ if needed or simply use a lot of water.

6. Maintain a healthy vagina and trim pubic hair. Excess hair around the vagina induces moisture, which can cause bacteria leading to infection and bad odour.

7. The skin around the vaginal area is delicate, so it is prone to scarring if you scrub vigourously. Gently wash your intimate area to avoid tearing or scratching it, as this can cause an infection.

8. For hot and humid climate or during the rainy season, cotton underwear is good for the skin and it leaves room for circulation.

9. During the wet season, it is recommended to change your underwear, especially if you are drenched from head-to-toe. Wearing a wet inner garment will increase your chances of developing bacteria.

10. Where public toilets are concerned, including schools, colleges and offices, wipe the toilet seat to prevent contracting an infection. Also, always wash your hands after visiting the toilet.

11. Drink plenty of water to flush out the infection. Water helps throw out bacteria present in the body through urine, and helps in boosting vaginal health.

12. Always keep the vaginal region dry to prevent the growth of bacteria. Like mentioned earlier, dampness or moisture induces the growth of bacteria.

13. You might think that using a floral spray on your vagina, will give it a sweet-smelling scent, but this could actually ruin the pH level of your vagina and cause irritation and other problems.

14. Choose cotton panties over other materials like lace, silk or synthetic as they dry quickly and allows circulation of air, which prevents yeast infections and bad odour.

15. If you notice a strange, smelly vaginal discharge, excess itching or unusual colour then it is important that you treat these symptoms by consulting your doctor, in order to prevent it from getting worse.
