If your boyfriend is playing you, there are some serious red flags to look out for. Because if you think you’re getting played, you probably are.
Keep an eye out, girl, because you don’t have time for that BS. Kick ‘em to the curb. A player is no good for anyone. You are too incredible to waste your time on a guy like this.
Here are 11 signs you’re getting played:
1. He’s always on his phone, texting and smiling.
Even when you’re together, he’s always glued to his phone. He seems much more absorbed in his text conversations than he is with the events of your day. What’s worse is he’s always smiling whenever he opens a new text. He is clearly getting his flirt on with other girls. It may sound a lot like paranoia, but it’s true.
2. He avoids talking about the future.
Any conversation about long-term commitment is off limits. He’ll avoid any and all questions that could mean he needs to dedicate himself to anything remotely permanent. A player is always chasing the next girl he sees in a skirt. If he’s not talking about getting serious, he isn’t serious about the relationship.
3. He shows no interest in meeting your friends.
If he doesn’t feel the need to meet your support system, he clearly doesn’t see you being in his life for very long. He doesn’t care about building relationships with your friends because he doesn’t feel committed to you. A genuine guy will care about the things that are important to you. A player only cares about the things that matter to him.
4. He never wants to hang out before 11 pm.
He always makes sketchy excuses for why he can never hang out at a reasonable hour. For whatever reason, his schedule only opens up late at night. He’s bored and this is the only time he doesn’t have anything “better” to do. He’s not interested in spending quality time with you. He probably spent the earlier part of the evening taking out other girls. You’re just an option, not a priority. He doesn’t respect you and only hanging out late at night makes it easy for him to not put a label on your relationship.
5. He always texts, never calls.
If he can’t even be bothered to pick up the phone, think about what this says about him. A real man will take the time to call you because he wants to hear the sound of your voice and have a real, meaningful discussion about your day. He doesn’t need to call you all the time, but if he refuses to ever call? He’s no good. He likely has another girl in the room and doesn’t want you to hear her talking.
6. He says he’s working late, but his Snapchat tells a different story.
When he tells you he can’t hang out, and yet his Snapchat story clearly shows him hanging out at the bar, you know he’s lying. He’s just giving you an excuse because he’d rather party than hang out with you.
7. He follows a bunch of models on Instagram.
You know he’s slipping into those DMs, low-key. If he’s following a bunch of hot girls on Instagram and Twitter, he’s definitely suspect. No guy spends his time scrolling through a bunch of ratchet girls’ photos if he’s not trying (or at least hoping) to get with her. He should be interested in photos of you, not some supermodel from Australia who wouldn’t even give him the time of day in the first place. He’s scummy. Move on.
8. He refuses to show you any form of affection in public.
Any guy who refuses to acknowledge your relationship anywhere other than in private is a creeper. He’s not your boyfriend if he won’t even hold your hand when you’re walking down the street. His body language speaks louder than his words. If he’s fidgety or avoiding eye contact with you, something is up. Try to see if he’s physically uncomfortable with any form of PDA. Only a player isn’t into showing his girl love.
9. He never takes you on dates.
His idea of a date is watching a movie on Netflix and having sex. He has never asked you to go out to a real restaurant, and if you suggest it, he just blows you off or offers a lame line like, “but I just like to be home with you.” He likely doesn’t want you to get too attached to him because he isn’t attached to you. He wants to keep things casual because he feels casual about the relationship. He’s not about to spend his paycheck on you because he thinks you’ll come around regardless of whether he puts in the effort or not.
10. He won’t drop the G-word.
When you’re out with your man, does he introduce you as his girlfriend? Have you noticed he either introduces you as his “friend” or simply by your first name? If he’s not calling you his girlfriend, you’re not his girlfriend. He doesn’t want people around him to get the wrong idea and think he’s off the market. If he’s avoiding the discussion, he’s never going to make moves. He’s just going to keep stringing you along for the ride. He’s not interested in being tied down by a label.
11. He has a bad reputation.
When you hear bad things about a guy you’re dating, believe them. If people who know him well are telling you he’s bad news, it’s probably because he is. They aren’t feeding you this information because they’re “jealous.” They want you to be happy. They clearly know this guy is a jerk and they want to protect you so you don’t get hurt.
