Dating chubby guys doesn’t mean we have a fetish, but it does mean we can appreciate a solidly built fella as much as (or more than) the next gal. Some women prefer skinny hipsters in slim fitting suits, and that’s fine for them. More chubby guys for the rest of us.
Date a few chubby guys and you’ll discover that they don’t all have the same personality type. They can be fratboy dudebros, or sensitive poets, or quirky comic book geeks.
But certain things are sure to happen when you date one of them.
1. How comfortable he is to snuggle with.
We have to choose our cuddling positions carefully or we risk missing out on both the Netflix and the chilling. Or we can catch some Z’s while indulging his love of a show we can’t stand.
2. How crazy his body heat is.
Chubby guys are literally hot. This is great in winter, but in the summer? Agony. He knows he’s a human radiator, so he understands that we have to love him from afar until the AC kicks in.
3. How squeezably soft his behind is.
Who needs a man with washboard abs when you can have a man with a rear end that just won’t quit? Whether we’re grabbing a handful or watching him walk away, there’s plenty to enjoy.
4. How annoying it is when people tell you “you can do better.”
Go out with a thin, unemployed barista with a gambling addiction and no one blinks. Date a kind, reliable man with a few extra pounds and everyone from your favorite aunt to your office frenemy will chime in. Ignoring them now is good practice for when they start criticizing you more directly.
5. How he sometimes lacks body confidence….
Chubby guys with any amount of self awareness knows they’re being judged on their appearance, and it can get to them. They appreciate it when we let them know how much we like their cuddly stomachs and squeezable rear ends.
6. …Yet still might have unrealistic expectations about YOUR body.
Some chubby guys are more interested in our senses of humor than the size of our waists. Others think they deserve to date a thin and conventionally attractive woman like preschoolers think they deserve soccer participation trophies. Like most jerks, these guys show their true colors pretty quickly so we can move on.
7. How sympathetic he is when you complain about clothes shopping.
You know what’s scarcer than plus-size women’s clothing stores? Big and tall men’s shops. A chubby man understands what it’s like to spend all day shopping and come home empty-handed.
8. How unstylish he can be.
A chubby guy can seem shlubby if he hasn’t learned how good he’d look in an untucked shirt or a well-tailored jacket. He may be a slob with a filthy apartment, or he may just need some fashion tips. We know it’s worth it to stick around and find out which one he is.
9. How understanding he is of your need for regular meals … and snacks.
A chubby guy will never expect you to go out drinking on an empty stomach. There’s always something to munch on in his apartment, even if it’s just three types of breakfast cereal. If you want to grab a quick bite while you’re out, he’s on board.
10. How annoying it is how quickly he can lose weight.
We may hate him a little bit, but hate the male metabolism, not the male.
