We are counter-culture, and we shall offer 10 reasons why we shall never obey the Anti-Porn bill. So please read on, and make this go as viral as possible. Let’s show them that we are not ready to obey their draconian laws.
1. The Youth Were Not Consulted 77% of Uganda’s population is youth. It is this same population that’s most likely to wear the so-called mini-skirts. So how do they expect us, the majority to be party to a law that was suggested by an age-group that’s out of touch with the times. This is stupidity. We are not some pawns on a chessboard of sorts, being moved to any direction by them, the chess players, we are actually in charge of the chess-board. Until, the Members of Parliament get back and consult the youth for views on the Anti-Mini skirt law, we shall never obey this law, not even in prison, not even on the streets, not anywhere.
2. The Law is biased towards the Female Species The law is meant to further limit the clothing choices of the female species. Nowhere does it actually touch the male species. So, since when did we make laws that touch a certain gender and leave out another one. This is the second reason we shall never obey this law. We shall fight it on the Islands, in the taxis, in State House, on parties, in night clubs, until the last mini-worn, we shall never obey this Lokodo law. By the way, does this law apply to his Karimojong brothers and sisters?
3. Karamoja was not Consulted Fr. Simon Lokodo is a true son of Karamoja yet he forgot to consult his family members back there. So isn’t this madness. Isn’t it madness for a hen to support the KFC opening? Charity starts at home, and if the law can’t work on his Karimojong relatives, then we are not ready to obey it.
4. There are better laws to be passed The country thinks that we are actually becoming immoral, but that’s wrong. It’s actually a cultural revolution and rebellion of sorts. It’s a way of distracting ourselves from the issues at hand. We still have youth unemployment to deal with, corruption to deal with, term limits to restore, then you decide to attack the remaining part of our freedom. That’s madness, we shall never obey this law, come rain, come shine, come Museveni’s retirement.
5. It’s Not In Our African Culture to Actually Wear Clothes Africans have always been wearing Mini-skirts, we only began wearing those long robes after the Whites came and enslaved us. But our history shoes that we were more comfortable showing off our bodies, yet we were still morally upright. So, if our history shoes that we weren’t wearing clothes, why should we obey a law that actually dictates how we should wear clothes.
6. Outlawing Mini-Skirts doesn’t stop Rape Cambodia, India and Pakistan are some of the countries which claim to be conservative and morally upright, yet, not a day passes in a given Indian town without a girl getting raped. And these girls that get raped are not usually wearing minis. So saying that outlawing mini-skirts helps to reduce libido is actually a very big fallacy. It’s better for the eyes to get used to the thighs and the breasts, whatever one’s eyes get used to, they stop reacting to it. But if you are outlawing mini-skirts, it implies that the moment a man sees a mini-skirt after a long-time, he will be over-excited sexually. So since outlawing mini-skirts has not stopped rape or reduced HIV in countries where such a law has been passed, we shall never obey the Lokodo bill. Swaziland does not accept Mini-Skirts yet it’s the most hit by HIV/AIDS and rape. So is India.
7. Conservativeness Retards Economic Growth and Development The very reason USA was able to grow at hyper speed in the 60s and 70s was because of the counter-culture. This counter-culture was full of the hippy lifestyle, people going nude, trying out drugs and out of this silly culture came the personal computer and all technological changes we are enjoying today. China did not begin growing until it let go of its conservativeness, South Korea only began growing after it broke free from conservatives. Conservative countries never develop, liberal countries do. Since we want to see Uganda develop, we shall never obey the Anit-Porn law. Never in our lifetime.
8. Porn Allows Us to become Sexually Mature Until a person has every option on the table for them to choose, they won’t know what they can tolerate or not. And in this case, by actually watching Porn, people will know what’s them and what’s not them. In a paper published in 2009 in the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry, Milton Diamond reviewed a very broad number of studies that have explored the supposed ill effects of pornography. Subsequent to his extensive review, Diamond concludes (p. 312): “Indeed, the data reported and reviewed suggests that the thesis is myth and, if anything, there is an inverse causal relationship between an increase in pornography and sex crimes. Further, considering the findings of studies of community standards and wide spread usage of SEM [sexually explicit material], it is obvious that in local communities as nationally and internationally, porn is available, widely used and felt appropriate for voluntary adult consumption. If there is a consensus against pornography it is in regard to any SEM that involves children or minors in its production or consumption. Lastly we see that objections to erotic materials are often made on the basis of supposed actual, social or moral harm to women. No such cause and effect has been demonstrated with any negative consequence.”
9. Porn is Good For Health Despite the studies which indicate there are negative effects of watching porn, an investigation conducted by Gert Martin Hald and Neil M. Malamuth found in their 2008 paper titled Self-Perceived Effects of Pornographic Consumption both men and women benefited from watching.
Not only did study participants state watching improved their sex lives, attitudes toward sex, perceptions of the opposite sex, and life in general, but the more hardcore porn viewed, the greater the perceived positive effect.
Now we shall only be stupid to obey a law that outlaws something that actually increases our health levels.
10. The Times Have Changed We Have To Embrace the New The likes of Lokodo and the old goons in Parliament find it best to keep Uganda to the Agrarian culture that limited progress. We want to replay Bob Dylan’s song, “The times, they are a changing.” Here are the full lyrics, they express the fact that; WE SHALL NEVER OBEY THE ANTI-PORN AKA MINI SKIRT LAW!!!
Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you Is worth savin’ Then you better start swimmin’ Or you’ll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’.
Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won’t come again And don’t speak too soon For the wheel’s still in spin And there’s no tellin’ who That it’s namin’ For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin’.
Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don’t stand in the doorway Don’t block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There’s a battle outside And it is ragin’ It’ll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin’.
Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don’t criticize What you can’t understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin’ Please get out of the new one If you can’t lend your hand For the times they are a-changin’.
The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin’ And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin’.
