A 10-man SC Villa has condemned Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) to a 2-0 defeat at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo to frog jump to second place pushing the defending champions KCC to third place.
Without team captain Isaac Kirabira, Steven Bengo, the arm-band holder of the day led by example with a strike in the first half that gave the ‘Blues’ a lead before Eria Ssekisambu put the last nail in Victoria University’s coffin on the day.
In the 35th minute, Victoria University’s Muzamiru Mutyaba denied the hosts a lead when he failed to convert from a resultant penalty after SC Villa defender Fahad Kawooya’s fouled David Ndihabwe in the box which saw him receive matching orders from referee Alex Muhabi.
The story changed when Steven Bengo made no mistake to convert his penalty when the referee pointed at the spot after defender Martin Mpuga handled the ball in the area. Bengo lifted his personal tally to 4 goals as transfer reports continue to link him to Kenyan side Gor Mahia.
In second half, Eria Ssekisambu head brushed from Bengo’s free-kick to make it 2-0 for the visiting side.
The result leaves SC Villa second on the table with 26 points from 12 games and just four behind table leaders Vipers who are yet to lose a single game in the league after 12 matches.
