Two time league champions Vipers Sports Club edged league leaders Kampala Capital City Authority FC by 2-1on Friday evening at Nakivubo stadium to reduce the six point gap between the two sides.
An afternoon down pour soothed the temperatures of the day prior to the eagerly awaited tie in the heart of Kampala. The Kitende based Venoms kicked off the game on a high pace and looked very ready to give the visitors a run for their money.
In the 16th minute, striker Tony Odur stung his former bosses when he exquisitely connected with Brian Kakaire’s low cross to slot the ball past the KCCA custodian, Benjamin Ohcan to give Vipers a well deserved lead.
Five minutes later, midfielder Deus Bukenya doubled the lead for the Abdullah Mubiru-coached side with a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard’s box as the hosts outclassed their visitors forcing coach Mike Mutebi into a first half substitution, withdrawing Brian Majwega for Paul Musamali on the half hour mark.
The Kasasiro boys managed to settle in and fend off Vipers attacks to keep it 2-0 by halftime. In the second stanza, either side’s efforts were fruitful until stoppage time when substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma picked up a consolation for the Yellow boys in the 90+3 minute.
The massive victory saw Vipers cut KCCA’s six point lead to three, standing second on the 16 team log with 15 points while the latter remain top with 18 points.
