Under the leadership of Captain Oscar Ocacakon, the Uganda Pool Cranes won silver at the 2015 All Africa Pool Championships in Maseru, Lesotho over the weekend.

At the four-day tournament, South Africa defended the title which they won last year in Tanzania where the Pool Cranes finished fourth.

The team was spearheaded by the 2015 Nile Special National Open Pool Champion, Amos Ndyagumanawe, runner up Alfred Gumikiriza, 2014 champion Fahad Ssewankambo, Sula Matovu and team skipper Ocacakon.

Uganda lost their first game against African giants South Africa by 14-11 but showed a great deal of character and resilience in the subsequent fixtures, beating Zimbabwe and Lesotho by 17-8 and 16-9 respectively.

In the individual category, Uganda was represented by seven players, namely; Amos Ndyagumanawe, Alfred Gumikiriza, Sula Matovu, Oscar Ocacakon, Fahad Ssewankambo, Herbert Kayuke and Ali ‘Neno’ Ssebana.

Gumikiriza, Ssebana, Kayuke and Matovu were all eliminated in the first round while Ocakacon and Ndyagumanawe lost the battle in the second round.

Fahad Ssewankambo aka ‘The Bee’ lifted Uganda’s flag high in the singles when he scooped a bronze medal after winning the third place play-off.

The team is expected to return home on Wednesday morning at around 1:00 a.m.
