Uganda Cranes beat Eastern Select side in Eastern regional tour

In preparation for World Cup and AFCON 2019 qualifiers, the Uganda Cranes team defeated the Eastern Uganda select team in the first regional tour of 2017 played at Kamuli Park Municipal Stadium in Kamuli, Eastern Uganda.

Since 2015, the Uganda Cranes have been playing regional tournaments against select regional teams as part of efforts by Airtel Uganda, their official sponsor, to offer different regions in the country an opportunity to play against the national team. These tours have also served as training for the Uganda Cranes who are currently in a bid to qualify for the 2018 World cup and 2019 AFCON tournaments.

The balanced Uganda Cranes team with a couple of experienced and youth players edged the Eastern select team 3-0. During the first half, the Cranes showed class with the passing of the ball and had numerous attempts on target which eventually resulted in 3 goals against the Eastern Select side. The first goal was scored by Proline Striker Nelson Senkatuka in the 11th minute, swiftly followed by two goals in the 22nd and 30th minutes from SC Villa’s attacking force of Martin Kiiza and Emma Okwi respectively.

Half time ended 3-0 in favor of the Uganda Cranes and the game ended 3-0.

Speaking after the match, Airtel Uganda’s Brand Strategy Manager, Noella Byuma congratulated the Uganda Cranes upon their win and thanked the fans for showing support towards the national team. She also spoke about the Company’s efforts to rally Ugandans to support the National team in the upcoming World Cup and AFCON qualifier games.

“As the official sponsor of Uganda cranes, Airtel Uganda is calling upon all Ugandans to support the team and as they endeavor to qualify for World Cup 2018 and AFCON 2019,” Byuma concluded.

Ronald Kivumbi, one of the organisers of the run, explains details of the route.

Organizers of the Kampala Night Run, the first of its kind in the country, have officially confirmed the 2km route for the event, which takes place on June 9 under the theme “Lite the night”.

The Tusker Lite sponsored marathon will begin and finish at Torino bar and restaurant, while taking in most of Lugogo, Kololo and surrounding areas.

Runners will leave Torino bar and restaurant, heading for Hesketh Bell road to join Acher road before heading for upper Kololo. From there, the night’s athletes will head for upper Kololo Terrace through Impala avenue and back to the Lugogo bypass , rejoining upper Kololo terrace and back to Torino. At the finish, winners of different categories will be awarded.

“The route is short not to overstrain the runners because the real party kicks off when the running ends, there’s lot to do after the run,” said Brand 7D’s Ronald Kivumbi, one of the run’s organizers.

In keeping in tune with the event’s fun theme, participants in the run can look forward to an evening where they literally glow in the dark, thanks to various fancy glow accessories that will be available to runners. These will range  from runners’ kits to glowing wrist bands and other accessories.

Arsenal FC, RDB Ink Deal To Promote Rwanda

Arsenal FC – one of the giant British Football Clubs has signed a three-year deal with Rwanda Development Board through its subsidiary ‘Rwanda Convention Bureau’ to promote the country’s tourism.

The Rwanda Development Board, through their subsidiary, the Rwanda Convention Bureau, has become our first official sleeve partner as part of the country’s drive to become a leading global tourist destination, using ‘Visit Rwanda’ messaging,” the club announced on its official website.

The three-year deal, according to Arsenal’s official statement, will also see ‘Visit Rwanda’ become “our official Tourism Partner.”

“The ‘Visit Rwanda’ logo will feature on the left sleeve of all our teams next season. The new kit for season 2018/19 was unveiled on May 22,” the statement adds.
