Uganda Revenue Authority closed down Bwaise based television, Top TV and radio over unpaid taxes amounting to about 200M.
This wasn’t the first time pastor Jackson Ssenyonga’s TV has been put off air for similar reasons as also late last year workers laid down their tools over unpaid salary.
Waiswa Abdul Salaam, the URA manager in charge of debt collection informed our sources that the television had failed to pay the subscription tax over a year and also the cheques they issued during negotiations bounced.
“If Pastor Senyonga fails to clear the taxes, we shall go ahead with criminal proceedings against him for issuing bounced cheques and later declare him bankrupt,” said the URA official.
Workers were told to go out of the stations before URA officials put custom seals on the entrance until they meet the required taxes which include VAT, income tax and PAYE (Pay As you Earn) before the closure of the financial year 2014/2015.
