Kampala Capital City Authority’s (KCCA) joy of getting new shirt sponsors was short lived after the yellows suffered a 2-0 defeat by the Sudanese U-23 Olympic national team on Saturday at the Philip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
On Thursday last week, KCCA announced Star-Times pay TV as their shirt sponsor in a three year deal worth about 700 million Uganda shillings but the Sudanese didn’t want to know as they added insult to injury in KCCA’s 2-1 loss to El Merriekh of Sudan earlier in the week on Tuesday in Khartoum.
In a game played in commemoration of Sudan’s national Independence, Captain Nasser Husain struck both goals in each half to see off the Kasasiro boys at their own stadium. Nasser put the visitors into an early 12 minute lead before striking again later in the second half.
Man of the match from the El Merriekh encounter, Michael Birungi and his counterpart Habib Kavuma both came very close as they hit the cross bar.
Stand-in Coach John Luyinda blamed the second loss of his charges on the tiredness of the boys after their long trip from Khartoum on Thursday.
“The boys played their hearts out but were fatigued. We missed a couple of opportunities too but that’s football. We were punished and also denied by the bar twice. Overall, am proud of the boys,” a gutted Luyinda told the club’s website.
KCCA’s Line Up: Yasin Mugabi (Emmanuel Opio), Sakka Mpiima (Yasin Mugume), Habib Kavuma, Ronnie Kisekka, Ayub Kizza, Hakim Ssenkumba (Ivan Ntege), Tom Masiko, William Wadri, OwenKasule (Paul Mucureezi), Herman Wasswa and Michael Birungi (Derrick Nsibambi).
In brackets were the respective substitutions on the day while Rogers Lukwiya, Timothy Awani and Martin Kizza were the unused substitutions.
