The two final games in Group B of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea ended in stalemates as Tunisia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) progressed to the quarter finals of the biennial tournament.
The Leopards of DR Congo came from behind to level matters with the Eagles of Carthage of Tunisia in a 1-1 draw on the evening. Tunisia took a well-deserved lead in the 31st minute when Ahmed Akaichi headed home from Yassine Chikhaoui’s ball to break the deadlock. Tunisia who looked the better side went on to miss a couple of chances before the referee stopped the game for half-time.
The Leopards returned into the second half more resilient and ready to get the job done no wonder their efforts paid off in the 66th minute when Loteka Bokila leveled matters that in the end helped his side progress to the quarter finals of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
In the other game of Group B, the 2012 champions of Zambia where shown the exit at the tournament after a goalless draw with the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde. Unfortunately the game looked like a losers match at the end of it all as both teams were ultimately eliminated after finishing third and fourth of the Group.
The Chipolopolo of Zambia finished bottom with two points while the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde finished 3rd with three points.
Group B table standings:
Tunisia – 5 points
DR Congo – 3 points
Cape Verde – 3 points
Zambia – 2 points
