She recently made 18 years old, the daughter to Frank Gashumba needs no introduction, and she’s done it all, right from the time she was born on February 7, 1996. Our celebrity interviewer Ian Ortega catches up with her for another of those deepest interviews where she comes open about her career, life, and what the future holds.
1. Are You a Virgin?
Very good question!! I get that a lot, most asked question in my life!!! Can I ask you a question too? Why would you wanna know? Haha… am pulling your leg anyways. I don’t discuss anything to do with sex in my life at this point. I can’t discuss what I don’t know about. I hope I have answered your question.
(Ian Ortega goes silent and Sheilah asks him; “nga you are silent…” Ortega remembers Kasuku had just been punched that same day by Eddy Kenzo and he moves to the next question seeing her fears punches)
2. Five years from now, where does it all lead to? What do you really want to do with your life?
5 years from now, I could even tell you what I wanna do in 10 years from now. In 5 years from now, I want to be a woman with more value, to be an example to young beautiful women that it’s beyond your face. I will only do that by living as an example. I don’t want to be a celebrity that shows up at a party and later leaves the party using a boda or taxi!!! No waaaay!!!
5 years from now, I am going to work my small body off to make sure that I spoil my father with the best I can provide from my sweat just like he did for me. I want to own the biggest style store in Uganda and I want to change lives of the youth through motivational speaking and donating half my income in the year to the poor because what makes you rich is the number of people you helped.
I want to be a leader. There isn’t anything fun in showbiz. It’s something I am not even thinking about.
(At this point, Ortega gets the feeling that Sheilah may quit the showbiz industry, she’s had it all, girl is tired of the limelight, but she does have Ortega in her 5 year plan, so Ortega moves to the third question)
3. Any moments you’ve regretted in the past?
I have no regrets by the way. People forget I am just 18, have not experienced so many things. I am still a baby.
(Ortega raises a point of information and tells Sheilah, “am just 15 years, am also a baby issh”)
4. What’s that one question you always want people to ask you but they never do?
People never ask me about my talent. All they ask me is TV, my dad. Hello, there is more to Sheilah than those two things.
5. On that note, tell us about your talent? What’s that more to Sheilah that we know not?
I have been a singer in all the bands in the international schools I have been in. I can sing both soprano and alto and have performed at all the international school talent shows in the singing categories. A few years back, my father paid Mowzey Radio to write for me a song but I wasn’t ready for the music career and I will never join it but I dance better than I sing. I also do both hip hop and dancehall.
I have performed with Uganda’s best dance duo; Roz merie and Veecey at the First Miss Teen. We did a tribute to Sera. I used to have comments from my friends saying; “but Sheilah, you do everything on earth.”
At Kabojja I got an award for Overall Talented Student. I am also a sporty girl. I am a good runner and I play basketball. I got a medal at Galaxy international last term. My dance crew won all the talent shows when I was in international schools. I am dope like that.
(Sheezzzh, this girl is so international mehn, the only thing international about Ortega is his name, and of course his being handsome, but she can’t notice, so he moves to the other question)
6. What kind of relationship do you want? One with a man as handsome as Ian Ortega?
Haha. Well, for me, I want a man who gives me a lot of attention. He has to be like my biggest fan more like the way Kanye West is Kim Kardashian’s biggest fan. Money doesn’t excite me though I love it. But money can surely make a relationship fun. We all love trips, shopping and gifts. But I can work hard to get all those for myself. The problem is that “money” is the most polite word to mean “control”. Anyone who gives you money or funds you has the control over your happiness, your spending so on and so forth. And I am a person who hates being dependent on something or someone. The idea of being vulnerable is a pain to me. By the way, I am the kind who would get married and people only know after the wedding.
I always see people linking me with men that my mind has never even imagined of dating any of them.
7. (By the way, Ortega found out Sheilah showers hot water) So which Ugandan man do you have a crush on?
To be honest, never really paid attention to men here but I have many of them as my friends. I love Trey Songs and his Americano. I don’t have any in Uganda, they are all beautiful in God’s image.
(Wow, Ortega just got friendzoned. I mean, Ortega is literally the number one pick-up artist in this country, but kijja kuggwa)
8. Your biggest fear?
The dentist and insects; That’s my major phobia.
We come to the end of the interview, one thing about Sheilah Gashumba is that she’s a virgin, she fears insects, and she’s a go-getter, or yes, she friend-zoned Ortega Ian. Now that sucks. Till next time, keep it on Africa’s number one entertainment platform.
