Nominations for the 3rd Annual HiPipo Music Awards were released today by HiPipo (U) Limited. The nominations are a clear reflection of the 2014 music industry performance as observed by about 15,000 music stakeholders including fans, media, and artistes who filled up nomination forms. Throughout the 34 categories, it is clear that 2014 will be remembered as the year of a powerful and dependable middle class that gave those already established serious competition. The 3rd HiPipo Music Awards- #HMA2015 will be held on Saturday 7th February, 2015 at Wonder World Auditorium, Kansanga.
Under the theme, The Fans Decide, voting for all categories will kick off on 15th December and will go on until the grand finale day. It should be noted that even though it had been earlier communicated that a second Electoral College would be established, due to popular demand and consultation, this will not be implemented and thus The Fans retain 100 percent voting/deciding winners in all categories.
This year Sheebah, Eddy Kenzo, Radio & Weasel and Bebe Cool garnered the highest number of nominations. These were closely followed by Chameleone, Bobi Wine, David Lutalo, Irene Ntale, Pallaso, and King Saha among others.
#HMA2015 nominations were gradually announced throughout today on Facebook, Twitter and several main stream media.
Speaking during the release, HiPipo CEO, Innocent Kawooya, noted that after one month of nominations and verifications, time was ripe for the music fans to know which musician was nominated and prepare for casting their votes.
“The nomination process has been very successful in whatever way you wish to look at it. Altogether, we received about 15,000 online nomination forms filled by fans. We also have over 500 hard copy nomination forms answered by music stakeholders including DJs, promoters, and media allover Uganda. Importantly, this year’s nominations are a reflection of how the music industry continues to grow in both competitiveness and talent variety,” he said, adding; “We have video footage for media personalities, DJs and fans giving their independent views about the nominations exercise and their expectations for the awards. This is part of the evidence that we left our comfortable zones and moved to some of the shakers and makers of the industry. The nominations are reflective of the music industry performance between 1st November 2013 and 31st October 2014.”
“The team is busy preparing an easy to use yet technologically secure platform that will be used for online voting. We are also working on an SMS portal that will be communicated in the next few days.” Innocent emphasized.
