Having written reviews that saw promoters struggle to bribe me in the best ways possible, I had decided to give up on attending concerts lest I write what may not make other people happy. But like any other human being, I have a social life; it has to keep burning lest it gets extinguished from keeping off the social scene. I now declare, I am back to this game of the social scene, and I begin with the CLUB MEGA FEST review.
Had it not been for SHAGGY, BEBE COOL and GRAVITY OMUTUJJU; we might as well have called yesterday’s Club Mega Fest concert one of the most boring. It’s these three people that saved the show from the jaws of death.
Mr. Mosh was at his worst. I don’t care whether one works for Urban TV and Vision group, it just sucks to keep hearing that every 5 minutes when one holds the mic. To quote Chris Atukwasize; “Mosh talked and invited every artist more than five times: “Put your hands together for: east and central, the best…baddest, illest musician..yeah Urban TV..Bukedde TV, Kampala Sun, Flair Magazine….for Burnaaaaaaa bway….!!!then he remains with microphone ..talks for five minutes….again he starts…Put yo hands together!!!!! Oh God!”
It was a total loss for the guys in VVIP. That was daytime robbery; poor chaps expressed their dissatisfaction by booing. The fans in general kept hurling bottles towards the emcees who’d just failed to charm them. The comedians had lost their Midas touch. The jokes simply saw the fury of the fans grow to greater levels.
When we call something a fest, it should live up to the billing of a fest. By the way, I had forgotten DJ SHIRU, he kept the fans wiggling and his prowess prevented them from turning rowdy. Deejay Shiru proved to be Uganda’s number one spin doctor. He literally gave MC Kats, ‘husband’ to Fille the best of his time on stage with Fille.
Security was perfect, but then, the success of a show is not judged on security alone, security is a must. The core success depends on the charm of the artistes and emcees. The sound kept failing from time to time, echoes and screeches in the stadium. Patra was then to have a better excuse for failing to make the best of her time on stage.
For whatever Patra failed to do with her performance, she bribed us with her Romantic Call attire. The pantsy was dripping wet. Panadol Wa Basajja surely has a mentor as she makes her own name in Uganda.
Burna next time pass by Down Town and get those durable jeans. It surely wasn’t your performance that screwed up the jeans. Perhaps if you were doing the acrobatics of Gravity Omutuju and Catherine Kusasira, then we could have agreed. Speaking of Gravity Omutujju, the weed is getting too much. It even made him think he could carry those big buns.
The show had those landmarks that will stick to our memories but it didn’t really forge its way into our minds as a concert of the lifetime. It could as well be rated among one of the worst for this year, if at all, we are to hold it to the standards by which great concerts are to be judged.
And why didn’t Mafikizolo perform? Why did they have to be kept backstage for over 4 hours? That sounds like another conspiracy by the promoters who wanted a full house at the VIP show taking place at Serena.
However, since security was perfect, at least we got back home safe and sound, able to write about all that went wrong…. Next time when we speak of mega fests, let them be mega. Let everything be mega like Bebe Cool’s costume which he had to first charge before getting on stage otherwise, he was refusing to step up there.
Bebe Cool was so overjoyed, when he looked at the crowd, suddenly, all the scenes of the Mandela birthday came to memory, he even forgot he was a curtain raiser at this event, and he turned it into a best of Bebe Cool and gladly he didn’t disappoint.
