1. Falcao García Zárate is named after Brazilian midfielder Paulo Roberto Falcao, who starred at the 1982 World Cup.
2. Falcao joined Lanceros Boyaca in the second tier of Colombian football and made his debut in 1999, aged just 13
3. His wife, Lorelei Taron, is an Argentine singer and the couple have a one-year-old daughter — Dominique Garcia.
4. Falcao’s father — Radamel Garcia — was also a professional footballer. He was a defender in the Colombian top flight in the 1980s.
5. The Colombian is a devout Christian and is involved in several projects to help disadvantaged children in his native country. He even met his wife at a church in Buenos Aires while playing for River Plate.
6. When Falcao was injured before the 2014 World Cup, Colombian fans sent death threats to the player who injured him, Monts d’Or Azergues defender Soner Ertek.
