Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) have suspended their skipper Denis Guma and Savio Kabugo until further notice.
The club have taken what they term as “swift and proper action” for what they consider a “breach of conduct” by the players/
The duo are accused for absconding from duty at a time SCVU are preparing for their Caf Confederations Cup engagement away to DRC’s Don Bosco next month.
Guma and Kabugo failed to return to the club training after their involvement with the national team, the Uganda Cranes, at the the Africa Nations Championships (Chan) in South Africa.
“The decision has been taken with full consideration of the team’s goals this year and that this shall not affect the team’s preparations for the CAaf Confederations Cup next month,” reads in part a statement from the club’s Media and Communications Manager, Leon Ssenyange, on Wednesday.
In addition, Guma has also been relieved of his duties as team captain. “Martin Mpuga will hence forth take on the captaincy of the team,” adds Ssenyange.
“He will be assisted by Benjamin Ochan (first vice captain) along with Mike Serumaga (second vice captain). The club will later decide on Guma and Kabugo’s future.”
