Controversial TV presenter Mary Luswata has weighed in on the Radio and Weasel – Oscar award issue. The singing duo complained that they were ignored by the media when they won an Honesty Oscar award from the One Campaign for their song titled Corruption.
According to Radio, when the duo is involved in any fights and fracas, the media is always ready to write about them and judge. But when something developmental is done for example winning a big award like the Oscar, no one in the media wants to talk about them and highlight their success. “When artistes fight, it’s breaking news!! When we win an award at the Honesty Oscars for singing and exposing corruption, the media is silent!! What should artistes do to get positive media coverage,” Radio said.
At this point, Mary weighed in and asked Radio and Weasel to respect the media in order to get help from them. “I have heard Radio and Weasel making so much noise about their award and how the media has side-lined them. You went online and said how you are too big after BET and you don’t need the media. If you won an award, I don’t care, keep it for yourself and your 25 children. Start your own newspaper or open a radio station. You are nothing compared to the Ugandan media. Be there with your award and die with it,” Luswata said.
Radio and Weasel took the Oscar for their song, which is a national call against corruption, singing “corruption is killing this nation.” The music video illustrates real examples of corruption at all levels of society, from bribes for false HIV test results to poor government maintenance of the roads.
