It was all joy in neighbouring Kenya as Pope Jorge Mario Bergoglio commonly addressed as ‘Pope Francis’ touched down at Jommo Kenyatta International Airport last evening ahead of his six day East African tour before heading to Central Africa.
The all excited Kenyans lined up in thousands on the streets of Nairobi to have a glimpse of his Holiness as government officials, religious leaders of the Catholic faith and President Uhuru Kenyatta who received him at the airport led the pontiff to Nairobi state house where he was expected to make his first official work on African soil.
When asked about his security in Africa following terrorists threats in Kenya and Central Africa recently, the head of the Roman catholic church joked that he was actually more worried about mosquitoes. “I go with joy to meet Kenyans, Ugandans and our brothers in Central Africa, I am more worried about mosquitoes,” the Pope told BBC.
He is expected to jet in Uganda on Friday evening this week.
