The Pearl of Africa Hotel, the biggest hotel in Uganda, is now open.
The five-star hotel was officially opened at a glittering ceremony that was graced by the elite community on Sunday. Invited guests were treated to cocktails on arrival, before being taken on a grand tour of the 20-storey facility visiting the various dining options and bars, conference rooms, hotel bedrooms and suites, wellness centre and spa, swimming pools, tennis courts and other amenities. This was followed by a banquet where different dignitaries addressed the guests.
Martin Carberry, Managing Director of Sovereign Hotels noted, “Our rates are affordable. We currently have an opening special of 195 dollars per person and we will carry that rate through to the end of this year.”
Located on Nakasero Hill, the hotel boasts of 253 rooms and 42 suites and offers a panoramic view of the city from its elevated site. It seeks to also offer world-class hospitality to international and local visitors. The hotel will employ 2,000 people directly and is expected to also offer job opportunities to more 10,000 people indirectly.
“We want the community to benefit from our presence here and we are going to do so in whatever way we can such as CSR initiatives.” Carberry added.
The ceremony culminated with a grand fireworks display.
