Am grieved to see that every time a regional competition is up, the host country of choice is Kenya. This has always kept me wondering whether there are no other countries in the region with similar facilities.
It should be noted that competitions like Tusker Project fame, Sakata Mashariki, and now Coca-Cola Sing For Cash that was recently concluded were all hosted in Kenya.
While chatting with Phionah Kirabo, one of the Sakata guest deejays, she informed me that Kenya has got some of the most amazing entertainment facilities and this often gives it an upper hand when it comes to hosting such contests.
But are they the best of all? Uganda, for example, is known for having one of the best event organizers in Central and East Africa, Silk events and this means they have what it takes to design any place to the standards of Kenya.
From all the recent contests in Kenya, I have witnessed contestants from other countries have been judged with prejudice and this has always affected the end result.
A Kenyan dancing group was crowned the kings of Sakata, but were they really the best group? What of Tusker project fame?
It’s high time other countries came out to fight for the same right to host such events or shun them if the coin cannot fall in their favor.
