Word coming in is that the Serena based television station, NTV is on fire as staff is threatening to halt all works after their long term colleague and workmate Harriet Namayanja was sacked.
We have learnt that there has been an ongoing rift between Aggie Konde, the managing Director and Harriet Namayanja, the Head of production. Aggie Konde has, however, finally managed to get rid of Harriet Namayanja.
Under former MD Joe Munene, Harriet encouraged and promoted ‘International Standards’ in terms of programming as the aim was to become one of Africa’s leading TV stations just as Citizen TV, eTV and the likes. When Aggie came on as new MD her major aim was the local market; beating Bukedde, NBS and the likes and thats why there have been ‘many local programs. Hariet disagreed with Aggie on this but she was over-ruled and the programs came on.
“Their first real ‘face to face’ clash was during ‘TALENT XP’,” our inside source reported.
Harriet saw it as a raw project not fit to replace HOTSTEPS. The program went on and it was a flop. The most recent has been ‘BE MY DATE,’ Harriet even refused to approve the program, but was shocked to see it on TV.
Aggie later brought in two close friends, one of them working as ‘Head of Production’ of sorts. When Harriet went abroad for a training seminar, she came back only to find that her office has been divided, with the other ‘production boss’ seated just adjacent to her. Harriet tried to reach the top Management of Nation Media but Aggie had already made a ‘terrible’ report about her. The only option for her was to give way.
“Harriet was preparing to bring in a resignation letter, she got the sacking letter first,” a workmate told us.
Staff at NTV have not loved the new changes and have been in support of Harriet thats why they nearly striked before Aggie convened a meeting and told them, “whoever wont follow our rules can walk out.” This has already started taking effect, first, the late night news is no more and it is rumoured many other programs are likely to come to a halt.
