Reigning Miss Uganda Central, Nakiyaga Zahara Muhammed, has been crowned Miss Uganda 2015 at a grand ceremony held at the Kampala Serena Hotel, Saturday evening.
Zahara who was the crowds’ favourite beat 20 other contestants to the title.
The 21 girls were taken through a series of activities and the numbers were trimmed down to the top 10. These were asked general knowledge questions with five queens passing through to the next level.
Zahara tussled it out with four of her remaining fellow contestants including; Ingrid Wanyama, Nakayaga Hilda, Nabwohe Juliana and Nabimanya Diana to take the crown.
Her runners up were Nabowe Juliana and Ingrid Wanyana respectively.
Speaking about her win, Zahara was thankful to the people who voted, the judges and all her fellow contestants. “Thank you all for this opportunity,” she said. “I will use my reign to change lives of many people who are young and fresh to face the world.”
Top Ugandan performers also graced the event, these included APass, Alex Muhangi and Grace Nakimera among others. BET award winner, Eddy Kenzo, was also in attendance at the event.
Speaking at the event, Brenda Nanyonjo the CEO of the Miss Uganda franchise asked the public not to be judgmental but rather support the franchise. “So many things were said about us, but now we have shown that we can make things happen. Please stop all the negative talk and let us work together,” she said.
Zahara who takes over from the outgoing Miss Uganda 2014 Leah Kalanguka, drove off in a brand new Toyota Spacio and got a 4 million cash prize from the Djibouti Embassy among other prizes.
