Isn’t 2014 a year of good videos? Every artiste seems to be having a state-of-the-art music video. Okay, not every artiste, but a good number of them. It is a bug that has plagued our music industry which is a good plague. On the flip side though, do you ever sit there and fantasize Irene Ntale without her makeup? When her face is robbed of eyeliners and the kilograms of makeup? Do you ever long to see that dream come true in your eyes? Well, look no further. Olindaba seems to bring that to fore. Irene Ntale looks fresh, like an apple bite in the video.
Firstly, it is a good song; something typical of Irene ever since she crawled on the scene. Lamentations of a love struck soul. But then, she decided to drag the video to the countryside. A sight of a village-ish, remote precincts is witnessed in the video. The execution of the video is flawless. Irene Ntale strolls around in a tattered attire. No makeup. Just her perfect smile, revealing the richness of her dark gum. It is an eye candy of sort. Once in a while, flashes of a face peppered with makeup is seen. Irene decked out in a traditional attire croons away, smiling like a chandelier. And Irene’s smile can change the weather, or melts men’s hearts. She smiles a lot in the video, which is not detrimental; it is a tool she uses to open doors, or people’s hearts. She lugs a pot, trotting away, along the village feeder roads dancing and singing. Villagers gather, at some point, and engage in a game of flexing muscles. The crowd gathers around them and they chant. At least, you can see them chanting. The village is a lone place, unadulterated as hell. And the video mirrors that. Though the story board is somewhat tedious. I don’t get it.
Credit goes to the producer here. The camera angles seemed to be perfect. The producer managed to capture the smallest of detail and by virtue of the fact that it was shot away from civilization, the producer delicately managed not to show any sign of civilization. He kept it simple. Freestyle. No one tried hard. In villages, people don’t try hard. And in the video, Irene doesn’t try hard to look pretty. Maybe the audio salvages the video. Well, a music purist might front that, but then again, the video is remarkably good. Something that is good to the eye. And it is not entirely about Irene Ntale’s iconic smile, the setting seemed perfect. But still, Irene, smile some more and we see, eh.
