Ever since she got out of Coca-Cola Rated Next, Winnie didn’t fall on her back and tend to her hair. She went straight to the studio (Swangz) and chased a dream. Has it paid off? Surely, it has. She is on a brick-road to where she wanted to be. Her voice is not bad and she has those bewitching good looks that quickly sell her out. Why do I think she is trying to sound like Irene Ntale? Has anyone noticed it? Okay, Irene sounds urbane yet Winnie’s music streaks down to the Club Ambiance audience. Nonetheless, the two chanteuses sound alike.
Winnie’s new single Katono Katono reminds you of the bygone era of Betty Mpologoma. For a split moment, I thought I was listening to the good old Betty. Winnie seems comfortable in singing this way; effortless, sweet, lovely. Embeera was also a good song sang in a similar style. I saw Winnie in her Rated Next days and she clearly seemed comfortable in singing Luganda songs of artistes like Iryn Namubiru. If it pays off, she should then stick to it. She doesn’t sound bad doing it. In fact, she slips in comfortably.
Katono Katono is a lamentation of someone in love. The whole love claptrap lovebirds tend to feed each other. It sounds cliché, but for some vague reason, I like it. The video is a piece of nice work; Winnie, as expected, looked stunning with her wide hips and an equally wide smile.
