Morocco to Join Emirates A380 network

Emirates has announced that it will operate the first ever commercial Airbus A380 flight to Morocco and North Africa, when it takes the iconic double decker aircraft to Casablanca on 26 March 2017.

The airline’s flagship aircraft, which continues to excite travellers and aviation enthusiasts alike, will replace the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft currently used on the Dubai-Casablanca route, offering increased seat capacity across all three cabin classes and an enhanced premium product experience.

The switch to the A380 offers a total of 1834 additional seats per week, meeting a growing demand from travellers on the route, with 14 private suites in First Class, 76 lie flat seats in Business Class and 401 seats in spacious Economy Class cabin.

Travellers from Morocco flying from Casablanca to Emirates’ world class hub, Dubai, can seamlessly connect to onward destinations in Emirates network, particularly in the GCC, east Asia and Australia, with many cities, such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Doha, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, also being served by the A380. The A380 service will also provide travellers from across the Emirates’ network, mainly the GCC and Australia as well as India, US, and the Far East, with ideal connectivity via Emirates’ ultra-modern hub in Dubai.

Casablanca has become one Emirates’ most popular destinations, which has seen steady growth since being launched in March 2002.  In 2015 alone, Emirates carried nearly 260,000 passengers and more than 10,000 tonnes of cargo, stimulating business and leisure travel between Casablanca and Dubai.

Passengers travelling on the three-class, 491-seat aircraft, will enjoy spacious cabins and experience a peaceful journey in the world’s quietest long-range jet. They can use the onboard Wi-Fi; indulge in food prepared by international chefs, and be entertained by Emirates’ award-winning ice system which offers over 2,500 channels of inflight entertainment across all cabins.

Emirates has redefined the core experience of premium travel. First Class and Business Class passengers will have access to the A380’s onboard Lounge, with space to mingle whilst enjoying canapés and the beverages prepared by the onboard bartender. First Class passengers can enjoy the aircraft’s First Class Private Suites and experience the aircraft’s signature onboard Shower Spa.

Emirates is the largest operator of the Airbus A380, and has carried over 65 million passengers on its flagship aircraft since 2008. Emirates is also the largest A380 operator with 54 more of the world’s largest passenger aircraft pending delivery.

So far, Emirates has introduced A380 services to over 45 destinations across its network. Its current fleet of 88 A380s has visited over 64 airports, flew nearly 986 million kilometers, and made 74,263 return flights to date.

From 26 March, EK751 will become an A380 flight, leaving Dubai every day at 07:25hrs and arriving in Casablanca at 12:55hrs. The return flight, EK752, departs Casablanca at 14:55hrs and lands in Dubai at 01:25hrs the next morning.

Eddy Kenzo lands mega tourism deal

BET International award winning artiste Eddy Kenzo is in for big things this year.

The star who rose to international recognition thanks to his ‘Sitya Loss’ jam has landed a mega tourism deal with Uganda Wildlife authority as the official ambassador for tourism in Uganda and the world.

The deal comes hot on the heels of a similar deal that he had in Kenya where he was charged with promoting tourism in the popular tourist destination for many international visitors.

While announcing the new appointment, Uganda wildlife through their Twitter handle said that it was an exciting moment for them to announce Kenzo as their new representative. They also noted that Kenzo will unleash to the world Uganda’s unique wildlife and promote Uganda’s tourism destinations.

An ecstatic Kenzo then revealed that he is going to do his best to make sure that he sales Uganda to the world. He said; ‘I will work hand in hand with all the different tourism departments to promote our country and it’s tourism attractions.’

Well done Eddy Kenzo. Keep the Ugandan flag flying high.

MTN Uganda revamps Kabarole Hospital, donates hospital equipment

MTN Uganda Foundation has handed over the revamped out-patient department (OPD) block of Kabarole Hospital Church of Uganda (C.O.U) and donated hospital equipment to benefit hundreds of patients who frequent one of Western Uganda’s busiest public hospitals.

During the handover ceremony, 10 hospital beds, 10 hospital mattresses, 10 hospital blankets and 10 mosquito nets were received by officials from the Ministry of Health and Kabarole Hospital.

This activity was done as part of the corporate social responsibility efforts of MTN Uganda carried out by its humanitarian arm, the MTN Uganda Foundation.

Speaking at the event, the MTN senior leadership was excited by the potential impact the donation will make to bring about long lasting change to Ugandans through provision of health care equipment.

“As part of the Access to Health Care initiative project, it is our aim as MTN Uganda to support the delivery of better quality health services to all across Uganda through the provision of hospital equipment” said MTN Uganda’s CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte, who was in Fort Portal to officiate at the event.

Access to quality health services is enshrined in the Goal Number 3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The nine goals were developed in order to direct the path for development around the world.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the third SDG is “Good health and well-being” which targets “access to quality essential health-care services” for all.

“Our donation today is small but will go a long way to assist each and every patient who comes here to get better treatment by ensuring their stay here is made as comfortable as possible in order to aid their full healing and recovery” said MTN Uganda’s CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte.

The ‎Senior Manager Corporate Affairs at ‎MTN Uganda, Ms. Justina Ntabgoba-Kayemba, praised the work done by the staff of Kabarole Hospital, which has been in existence for almost 115 years, in delivery of health services to residents of Fort Portal.

“We congratulate the Kabarole Hospital staff for the great work done towards provision of outreach services, core clinical services, community health services and medical operational services. This donation will rejuvenate them to carry out their duties better”, she said.

The Medical Superintendent Kabarole Hospital, Mr. Edward Mugisha noted that the donation will enable the private-not- for-hospital become more self-sustaining and deliver affordable healthcare.

“The hospital is reliant on donor funding but this has been declining. The funds are used to cover utilities and provide for the staff leaving less money for us to finance our several infrastructure projects. This donation and renovation frees some resources to ensure we deliver affordable healthcare.”

The event was part of various corporate social responsibility activities carried out by MTN Uganda Foundation whose main objective is to improve the quality of life in communities across the country by supporting and implementing sustainable projects in education, health, art and sciences, sports and other national priorities.

Last month, Valery Okecho, Corporate Communications Manager, handed over 30 beds, ​30 ​mattresses, ​30 ​bedsheets, ​30 ​blankets and ​30 ​mosquito nets to the State Minister for Health (General Duties) Hon. Sarah Opendi and the Commissioner of Curative Services in the Ministry of Health Dr. Jackson Amone. The donations were given to benefit the services of Bwera Hospital in Kasese.

The MTN Uganda Foundation Access to Health Initiative (AHI) will see 500 hospital beds, 500 mattresses, 500 blankets and 500 nets be given out to hospitals around the country.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Uganda) officially broke ground for a brand new US$8.35million (UGX 30.7billion) Manufacturing Line to bottle more on Friday.

The new bottling line at the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Uganda) Namanve site operated by Century Bottling Company will have a capacity of producing 24,000 bottles an hour, accelerating the production of natural mineral water to refresh and rehydrate Ugandans.

The US$8.35million (UGX30.7billion) investment will bring to Uganda the newest bottling line technology out of Germany, enabling the Company to innovate further for increasingly changing consumer demands.

The investment is part of a US$15 Million investment plan Coca-Cola Beverages Africa has for Uganda alone in 2018.

Minister of State for Investment and Privatisation, Hon. Evelyn Anite, officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony after conducting a tour of the Namanve Plant and welcomed Coca-Cola Beverages Africa’s additional investments.

She lauded Coca-Cola Beverages Africa for focusing on Uganda and spending the bulk of the US$8.35million (UGX30.7billion) within Uganda to benefit citizens and support the economy.

“Of this, I am told US$3.5million will be spent inside Uganda on civil works and construction and auxiliary services. That is a very significant amount for many reasons. First of all, that means that the bulk of the investment that we are launching today is going to be spent inside our own country and will directly benefit Ugandans. That fits well within our ‘Buy Uganda, Build Uganda’ policy and I applaud you for that. Also, your investment in a new Manufacturing Line creates more jobs for very many categories of Ugandans – which fulfills the NRM pledge to create more jobs and wealth especially for the youth of Uganda,” she said.

“As Government, we acknowledge and thank Coca-Cola for being a development partner of Uganda. On top of these investments, you also pay taxes – I understand you paid UGX140billion in taxes last year. This is a highly significant amount and we look forward to seeing it increase once this new investment begins to bear results. During the tour of the facility, it was gratifying to see the quality of your equipment and to note that you have two other bottling facilities in Uganda, and that you are still setting up more. By bottling high quality international brands in Uganda you are promoting the economy within Uganda and also promoting the country internationally,” she added.

Ag. Managing Director, Mr Patrick Oyuru assured guests of the investment commitments of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Uganda), which runs three subsidiaries bottling Coca-Cola products (Century Bottling Company), pure natural mineral water (Rwenzori Bottling Company) and recycling plastic waste taken from the environment (Plastic Recycling Industries).

“We employ about 1,800 Ugandans in our three plants in Kampala, Mukono and Mbarara, and support more than 90,000 businesses across our extensive retail distribution network. Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is proud to make these contributions on top of paying taxes to the tune of more than UGX140billion annually. We are serious about doing business in Uganda and supporting this economy,” he said.

He added that the investment in the brand new US$8.35million Manufacturing Line was a strong demonstration of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda`s commitment to the development of Uganda despite the tough economic conditions.

“Because of this new Manufacturing Line, our 1,800 employees and hundreds of thousands of other Ugandans involved in selling our high quality products around the country will be assured of ongoing employment because production will increase. As well, the biggest bulk of this investment will be spent inside our own country and will directly benefit Ugandans. This fits well within the “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” policy that Government is advocating. The new will create more jobs for various categories of Ugandans – which fulfills the Government pledge to create more jobs and wealth especially for the youth. This includes employees during the construction as well as additional employees when the new line is completed. We are happy to be contributing to the development of Uganda,” he added.

CCBA management emphasized that the Company will continue to be a relevant partner with Government and called upon the officials to ensure they work to limit the challenges private sector faces in doing business
