Uganda Parliament star striker and Kampala central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko is on the verge of owning a club in Uganda’s top flight league, the Uganda premier league (UPL).
The development follows persistent reports, though unconfirmed, that have linked the NRM rebel MP to Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU). The Namboole based side has suffered a great financial crisis that has not only undermined its reputation in Ugandan football but has also affected its performance in the first round of the UPL.
The crisis has also seen the club lose a big number of star players in the January transfer window. First team goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan left for KCCA, Yasser Mugerwa joined Uganda Revenue Authority F.C, Murushid Jjuuko left for Simba in Tanzania, Mathew Odong joined Kenya’s Tuskers F.C and Denis Iguma left to join the Lebanon premier league.
Uganda Cranes defender Savio Kabugo and Martin Mpuuga have also expressed their interests in leaving the club.
Victoria University were last season’s runners up but they today lie slightly above relegation zone after finishing 12th in the first round of the season with just four points above relegation.
The MP has in the recent passed expressed interest in owning a football club in the UPL after he was linked to UPL debutants, KJT Rwenshama. Nsereko confirmed his interest in buying Rwenshama last year but the stake holders at the club had no interest in selling the club.
Since then the MP has been linked with the financially stricken Victoria University with rumors suggesting that he has bought majority shares at the club.
“This time everything seems finished on paper with confirmation to the public the only thing awaiting,” reads a statement on Kawowo.
