Uganda will allegedly spend close to €100,000(about Ugx420M) in a bid to bring Barcelona star Lionel Messi to the country.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the shs420M will be paid by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) to bring the four time Ballon D’Or winner in the country in an attempt to boost tourism.
The development follows a country visit by two ex-FC Barcelona stars, Patrick Kluivert and Rayco Garcia who met President Yoweri Museveni yesterday.
The rumors further suggest that an agreement in principle was reached upon after former Barcelona FC forward Patrick Kluivert met with officials from UTB led by Stephen Asiimwe.
It’s also said that Messi will be expected to be in company of other Barcelona stars (both current and ex-players) when they come to Uganda in December this year.
They will then take a country tour to see the Mountain Gorillas and visit the source of the Nile among other places.
It should be remembered that the Argentine international already made a trip to Africa this year when he was hosted by Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba and helped to lay a foundation for a new 20,000-seat stadium in Port-Gentil.
We will keep you posted.
