Hanson Baliruno is currently Africa’s King of music in the Scandinavian countries after he was crowned Best African Artiste of the year in the 2013 African Crown Music Awards that were held in Stockholm, Sweden.
The singer was recently in the country where he premiered his new video–“Love Letter.“ He shares with us about his life and music.
1. Who is Hanson Baliruno?
I am a recording artiste, performer, composer, and song writer. I was born in Uganda, though I now reside in Sweden.
2. Describe your kind of music and where do you draw your inspiration from?
My music is mainly afro pop/afro beat/afro zone.
I draw inspiration essentially from my African roots. Things like true life stories, African life style, tradition, and the culture are my inspiration.
3. As an artiste what makes you different from the pack?
I am a great performer; I think that gives me a comparative advantage over other artistes. The way I compose and write my songs plus my vocal ranges are also good.
4. What’s your say about the Ugandan music industry in relation to making it a career?
To take on music as a career, implies it’s a full time job, and this requires a lot of time, concentration, determination and capital. However much Uganda’s music industry might look small compared to the rest of the world, it’s not easy to make it a full time job.
5. Which local artistes would you love to work with?
I don’t have a particular artiste I would love to work with. Actually, I don’t mind doing a song with any local artiste as long as he’s talented.
6. Are you working on an album and when should we expect it to drop?
Yes, am working on an album titled “Unresistable” and it will have at least 7 songs. The album cost over Ugx 7million and most songs on the album draw inspiration from Africa because that’s where I come from. You should expect my album before the end of this year.
7. Besides music, what else do you do?
I am also a businessman.
8. Any advice to artistes who might want to start a music career overseas?
To make a breakthrough in the music industry overseas, obviously you ought to have talent. You must also possess a good personality, be focused and trustworthy.
