If MPs in the 9th parliament don’t tighten their belts, their seats are likely to fall in the hands of artistes. Here is a list of Ugandan artistes with political ambitions as compiled by Saturday Vision.
Judith Babirye – Buikwe.
Many across Ugandan love her gospel tunes and so do the people in Buikwe district. This support may soon turn political as she has promised to help uplift the lives of voters. However, the current Buikwe MP Dorothy Mpima wants to seek reelection. This will be a nice one to follow. Best of luck to the “Maama” singer.
Godfrey Lutaya – Kakuto County.
When Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago asked Lutaaya to stand come 2016 at his wedding recently, we thought the Eagles production singer would take it as a joke. It turns out that he has now made it official to stand for Member of Parliament come 2016. People in Rakai will have no reason to worry about him abandoning them anymore as soon as he becomes their MP.
Patrick Idringi Salvador – Nakawa.
MP Fred Ruhindi now has a comedian for a competitor to the MP seat for Nakawa come 2016. Salvador who confirmed his intentions to stand come 2016 made his announcement on Facebook that he wants to contest for the Nakawa seat. We wish him the best.
Kato Lubwama, Rubaga South.
Diamond Ensemble drama comedian and CBS radio presenter Kato is set for the 2016 MP seat. He never misses DP weekly meetings nowadays. The current MP Ken Lukyamuzi may have a lot to worry about. He has been using comedy to get votes, however Kato boasts of his diploma in comedy that Ken Lukyamuzi doesn’t have.
“Lukyamuzi has been relying on comedy to win elections, but I have a diploma in the filed from Makerere university, which he doesn’t have, he won’t outsmart me.” Lubwama Vowed.
Others on the list include; Joaniata Kawalya, for Rubaga/ Wakiso, Eng David Katerega for Nakifuma, Eddie Yawe for Kampala central and Bukedde TV’s Dennis Katongole for Bbale county.
