From the trio of Blu*3 that has long vanished off the scene, Lillian has not only been ‘her of the prettiest face’ but also ‘her of the robust vocals’. She stuck out in her heydays, when three girls held the country captive with their sheer vocal prowess. Then they broke up. Cindy embarked on a solo path. Jackie added weight and, too, followed a solo career. Lillian Mbabazi fell in love, got a kid (kids, now) and formed Sundowners, a music outfit that combs the city gigging around. She, like other girls, has remained musically relevant. Here, she dropped her new single Kuma Obudde.
I must say, it is a good song. Something you would expect from the former Coca-Cola pop star. She has never disappointed. Her vocal ability is evident in most of her repertoire of songs that always struck a chord. Produced by Swangz Avenue, Kuma Obudde is a well-crafted piece fed with a smart production and delivered in Lillian’s rich vocals. It leaves you unquenched. It renders you to jealously guard time for it. And that precious time you keep won’t go to waste because saying that Kuma Obudde is a good song might come off as an understatement. It is a seemingly flawless song that reeks of romance.
It is danceable, too. Yes, you will nod to it, wiggle your waist in club and twerk to it because the instrumentation is one heck of a good one that won’t leave you squeamish in your seat. Something you would expect from Swangz Avenue, really. They haven’t assembled below-the-belt songs since their inception. I doff my hat to Lillian for her effortless flexibility and the way she churns out songs in different languages with practiced ease. And it was evident in Kuma Obudde. A catalogue of English and Luganda makes it stick out of the hordes. Good song, this one. Good song, Lillian.
