With the whole Lupita fuss now a bit calm, I will begin on my obsession with this girl. Well, I can’t say much about her acting, but rather the results of her acclaimed success after that film.
This girl is not your everyday trend setter, she is a style goddess. Everything she wears seems to blend in just well, with her skin tone, and well toned physique. So for those Kampala babes that want to make it to Hollywood and have a selfie with Brad Pit like Lupita, maybe you could begin by picking few fashion lessons from her and know what to wear when you finally get there (in your dreams, that is!)
Go for Detail.
Embellishments, graphical prints, and pattern will have to be your “in thing”, if you are to pull it off like this Kenyan darling. Whether she is on the red carpet, or on a TV show, Lupita knows just the right detail to get us hooked on even the most boring of looks. Go for floral, cuts outs, asymmetrical cuts and the like.
Drop the Brazilian.
I was one of those people that always gaped in awe, when very many of these Hollywood chics stepped on the red carpet with their extensions that would be curled up elegantly. Then in came Lupita, and she totally brought about my loathe for the fake hair. This girl wowed the entire world with her short, natural black hair. So this may make you think twice about investing all those dimes in a fake Brazilian piece. Go natural, if possible, you could even go for the Janet cut, but like a true Fashionista, add a few dressing tricks to it, and trust me; even the longest of Brazilian hairs will have nothing on you.
Put your best foot forward.
She is dark skinned, well toned, and very proud of it. That’s why everything she wears doesn’t have to cover up those well-toned arms, and elegant limbs.
So work with your best feature and use these to perfect your look. If you are the kind that has a great bottom, like me (Lol), then ensure that whatever you wear, has this feature emphasized, but in a stylish way.
Colour, Colour and more Colour.
Just because you are dark skinned doesn’t mean you should always wear those very painfully dark hues. Your closet should have some yellows, purples, blues, green, and even white. Whether it’s a jumpsuit, a red carpet gown, or even a little pretty dress, let it drip in a gorgeous hue. Your star icon, Lupita, has a whole rainbow collection of all her looks, pick a leaf!
