Controversial openly gay Kenyan singer, Joji Baro is back in the news, this time with a threat to take his own life.
Joji Baro whose real name is George Barasa, took to social media to vent out his frustrations with life and declare his intention to commit suicide and this time (implying he has tried before), he wants to make sure he is dead.
“I’m going to kill myself and this time round I will make sure I die. Tired of false hope. Tired of unfulfilled promises. Tired of broken heart. I’m tired of being ‘effed'(edited) up all the time. I don’t want no more,” he wrote drawing mixed reactions from his friends and followers.
According to the Kenya Penal Code, “226 Any person who attempts to kill himself is guilty of a misdemeanour.” Since no penalty is given there, the penalty is up to two years in prison or a fine, or both (section 36).
Therefore Joji’s announcement may not only land him in deep trouble with the law but from his confessed failed attempt he may even attract jail time.
There are speculations that his is just an attention seeking stint, while others feel that it could be a cry for help which should be approached from a psychological perspective.
