The continued poor penalty shooting skills of Uganda’s representatives KCCA FC at the Kagame cup cost them a third slot finish that was worth 10,000$ in the third place play off played at Amahoro stadium on Sunday afternoon. The FUFA Super League champions finished fourth at the concluded CECAFA Kagame Cup 2014 after losing 4-2 on penalties to Rwanda’s Police FC.

KCC’s loss to Police followed a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes that took them straight to the penalty shootouts with no extra time.

Police’s Jimmy Mbaraga gave the home team a first half lead before KCCA’s Brian Umony put it to level in the second half. The ‘Kasasiro boys’ had an awesome start that made them think they had taken the lead when Derrick Nsibambi slotted home in the 7th minute of the game but the goal was refused for an earlier foul by KCC’s striker Umony on defender Fabrice Twagizimana.

Jimmy Mbaraga intercepted Isiagi’s back pass to give the home team a lead before dribbling past Captain Sakka Mpiima in the 16 yard box and slot the ball past Elungati.

The need for KCCA to put the game to level and Police’s pursuit to contain their lead, both coaches made immediate changes at the second half kickoff with Cassa Mbugo bringing on Bosco Jean Uwacu for Kipson Atuheire on the Rwandese side as KCC’s Nsimbe brought on Brian Majwega for Isiagi.

The Lugogo based side realized the fruits of their efforts in the 49th minute when Brian Umony tapped into an empty net after confusion in Police FC’s backline who failed to clear away from Wadri’s cross before Brian netted from Nzarora’s poor clearance to mark his 5th goal of the tournament. The Ugandan representative however suffered a massive blow when Brian Majwega who had just come on for Isiaga was substituted for Owen Kasule after sustaining an injury.

Despite all the efforts by both teams, Hassan Mohammed, the Somali referee blew the final whistle before any side could score a winning goal which sent them to the penalty shootout where KCCA lost by 4-2.
