Police say Indiana schoolteacher Travis Lechien brought students to his home to party, gave them beer and, in one case, even took students to a strip club. Clearly, no one’s parents signed the permission slip for that field trip.
“According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Lake County prosecutors, some students at the school have visited Lechien at his home and ‘on four or five separate occasions, Mr Lechien allowed’ the students to drink beer and smoked a hooka belonging to Lechien,” WGNTV reports. It sounds like Lechien may have confused his own home for the dorm room of a Moroccan exchange student.
The article also claims that the 31-year-old chemistry teacher brought a group of students to a local strip club in celebration of one of the student’s 18th birthday. While taking a bunch of rowdy teenagers to a strip club sounds about as fun as taking your spouse, perhaps Lechien was just getting a head start on his midlife crisis.
After hearing of the Hanover Central High School chemistry teacher’s antics, police promptly began an investigation and arrested Lechien on charges of three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. School officials also fired Lechien. Apparently, Strip Club Etiquette 101 isn’t a class the school is interested in offering. There’ll be plenty of time for them to learn that in college.
Presumably as a high school chemistry teacher, Lechien would have known that alcohol and underage students go together about as well as acids and bases: Whenever someone mixes them, there’s bound to be a bad reaction. Unfortunately for Lechien, not even HazMat can clean up this mess of a situation.
