It seemed like a gathering of good looking women at The Sound Cup on Thursday evening as soul music heartthrob Maurice Kirya released his highly anticipated Mwooyo album. Maurice has over time pushed his brand on social media. If there is anyone who needs a pat on the shoulder, it has to be Maurice. He pushed his album release shindig on social media, breathlessly and, strangely, yielded dividends. Was it worth the salt? Sure, it was.
The place teemed of Maurice’s ardent fans (and they were many) who came through to witness the official release. They gathered around tables, in small groups and engaged in small talk, taking selfies. Maurice’s old songs played in the background as folks engaged in chit-chat. He later sauntered in to a heroic reception. After what seemed like endless selfies he took with fans that literally threw themselves at him, he walked to the front and churned out an acoustic performance with guitarist Myko Ouma and producer Sam Bisaso. He performed Never Been Loved off his new album and a catalogue of songs from his past Book Of Kirya album. His fans, nearly shouting themselves hoarse, squatted, sat, stood and jumped endlessly as he crooned the evening away. It was a great evening of music, really. Maurice announced that there will be a concert later this year.
