Unilever Uganda has today launched a three-month consumers’ campaign known as Blue Band Hi-Five School Puzzle Challenge which will touch lives of over 500,000 pupils and families in Uganda.
The competition is intended to improve awareness on nutrition to pupils drawn from over 1,000 schools in Uganda through Blue Band which helps kids to grow, by providing energy, stronger bones and teeth, and improving vision and immunity.
Speaking during the launch at Kitante Primary School in Kampala, Mr. Peter Muchiri, Unilever Uganda Country Director, reaffirmed Unilever’s commitment to improving the lives of children and their families through nutrition provision with brands that provide a daily source of essential nutrients.
“At Unilever Uganda, we believe that good nutrition is the foundation for a long and healthy life. Proper nutrition is essential during childhood so that a child grows to obtain a healthy height and weight, can concentrate in school and does not have any nutritional deficiencies. This why we are reaching out to more schools this year,” he said.
This year’s prizes include school fees for the top three students per region, an East African educational tour which will include students from other East African countries where Unilever operates, and cash prizes for winning schools and their teachers.
Hon. Sarah Achieng Opendi, the State Minister of Health for Primary Health Care who was the Chief Guest at the launch of the 2015 Blue Band Hi-Five Schools Puzzle Challenge, lauded Unilever for complimenting government’s efforts in promoting community health through best feeding practices.
“We are happy that Unilever has relentlessly and consistently relayed the proper nutrition message. Everyone should play their part in raising healthy children; teachers, parents and entire community. The challenge is upon us to have healthier and more productive children,” echoed Opendi.
The competition follows another equally exciting school puzzle challenge held last year in which nutrition education was passed on to over 300,000 students who participated and also saw Kitante Primary School emerge as the overall winner.
