She passed away in the US where she has been living with her husband Alax Jakana, who currently works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Many of her former colleagues and friends who have taken to social media to mourn her described Tinditina as a sweet, calm, and kind lady.

A Penny Jakana memorial fund has since been created on to raise funds to return her body to Uganda. “We would like to support our dear friend financially by contributing towards her funeral in Uganda. All funds raised will go directly to Alex Jakana. Thank you for your generosity and God bless you big as we stand together with the family,” reads part of the message on the website.

Tinditina,  who worked as a news anchor on both UBC and Radio One in the early 2000s, is survived by 3 children.
