The football fraternity in Uganda has shown how they are benevolent contributors to charity in the attempt to improve the lives of others. The drive was spearheaded by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) under the Community Social Responsibility (CSR) cause, a campaign that was accompanied to the 42nd edition of the Uganda Cup.
On Wednesday, the local football governing body flagged off a big delegation that comprised of members of the Executive and other staff led by Dr Patrick Bernard Ogwel. They officially handed over an assortment of items that included clothes, food stuffs, bags, shoes and balls among others to a charity group, Missionaries of the poor, Good Shepherd that is based in Mengo -Kisenyi.
Speaking at the handover, Dr Ogwel, as quoted on the federation’s website, said; “Football is a unifying factor, it doesn’t discriminate basing on tribe or religion. Therefore lets use it to promote development. We are privileged to hand over those items and we look forward towards a cordial relationship with the NGO.”
Brother Rushian Beck received the items on behalf of the Missionaries of the Poor and thanked FUFA, Vipers, Onduparaka and everyone else that contributed to the cause. “We are so glad that you the Missionaries of the Poor. Your coming should not be the first and last time. We are grateful for this giving heart and may God bless you.”
Missionaries of the Poor takes care of over 4000 needy children with the girls staying in Kisenyi and boys in Busega.
