After AK47’s untimely death, we expected a song to come from his musical family. Either Chameleone, Weasel, or Pallaso. Thankfully, Chameleone took a giant leap forward and did a tribute for the fallen soldier. The song went viral, for whatever reasons. It had a lot of tongue-in-cheek messages; the kinds that raised eyebrows, you know. More especially a part where he says, repeatedly, “Jeff Kiwa…Jeff Kiwa, AK wamutwala..” Such a deep pointer.
But then again, to digress a tad, it was more than a tribute. It’s a darned good song. Here, Chameleone showed how he is head and shoulder above others. He is a good storyteller and his ability to tell a story even in its sadness was evident in this song. He sounded calm, more calm and reserved. You would understand and he was composed throughout the narrative.
In the song, he narrates his younger brother (the deceased)’s dreams and how they were achieved. He recounts how AK loved America so much and how planes were climbed in the process; quite a teary narration. The beat does it justice. The chorus brings tears to the eyes, yet Chameleone seemed to have a lot to talk. He won’t stop; revealing his time with AK47 till he takes a sudden angle and throws mocking darts at Jeff Kiwa. It is a tribute, yes, a good one at that. But it is a good song as well. The kind that you can, actually, dance too.
