How Dr Jose Chameleone always knicks a collabo from visiting international artistes is something of a mystery. The sight of Chameleone pitching camp at Entebbe Airport as he waits to kidnap one of these artistes quickly rings to mind.
The opportunist in Chameleone has always prevailed as the Leone Island boss has managed to secure collabos from Jamaican dancehall hotshots like Beanie Man and Konshens. The success of the songs notwithstanding, it goes on to attest the shrewdness of the artiste and pronounce his claim to have Ugandan music be heard on the International scene.
In December last year, Nigerian music lynchpin Davido made a stop in Kampala to perform alongside Chameleone in the Clash of the Titans concert and not surprisingly they did a song together. In complete afro-dancehall fashion, the two artistes gel perfectly. It’s easy to forget that the song was done in a few hours time. Chameleone in his orthodox ruff neck delivers lines in Luganda, English with Davido coming in to complement the Doctor in one of the songs that are going to tear up dance floors this year.
Davido sings most of the chorus and notably takes charge of the song and reminds music lovers why he has been one of the most bankable African musicians and one of the symbols of Naija pop music. He is a true star and it’s exciting to see that Chameleone didn’t feel threatened and held his own throughout the song. The song in itself is deficient on message as it intimates on girl’s rears and the like but should get people jumping up and down in clubs. A legit club banger for me, I must say.
